Bima Sakhi Yojana: Empowering Women in Maharashtra's Palghar District

Mumbai, Dec 15 (NationPress) The Bima Sakhi Yojana, introduced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is significantly empowering the women of Palghar district in Maharashtra by offering them specialized training in vital areas of interest, thus enabling them to achieve self-sufficiency.
Numerous women beneficiaries have shared their heartfelt appreciation for the government, emphasizing how the scheme is instrumental in helping them realize their aspirations and attain financial independence.
In a conversation with IANS, Purnima Pandey, a resident of Palghar, expressed, “I want to extend my gratitude to PM Modi and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for this initiative. It is genuinely empowering women. Through this scheme, we are acquiring knowledge and receiving stipends, which are aiding us in fulfilling our dreams as well as those of our children. It marks a significant step towards our empowerment.”
Sachin Singh, another local individual, referred to the initiative as a ‘gift’ for women as the New Year approaches.
“Through this scheme, women will earn Rs 7,000 plus commissions. I am grateful to the Modi government for its focus on women’s empowerment. This initiative is tailored for women eager to achieve their goals in life. The only prerequisite is having completed Class 10th, so I encourage all women to seize this opportunity.”
Launched by Prime Minister Modi on Monday, the Bima Sakhi Yojana is an ambitious endeavor by the Life Insurance Corporation (LIC) aimed at empowering women in rural India by providing them with the chance to become insurance agents. The target is to recruit 100,000 Bima Sakhis within a year, allowing women the opportunity to earn a livelihood while also promoting insurance awareness in underserved regions.
The LIC Bima Sakhi Yojana is structured to generate new livelihood opportunities for rural women while enhancing access to insurance services in these communities. This initiative merges social welfare with business expansion, aspiring to contribute to the larger goal of financial inclusion.
The scheme focuses on women aged 18 to 70 who have completed at least a Class-10 education. LIC aims to enroll 100,000 Bima Sakhis in the first year and 200,000 over the next three years as part of its commitment to advance women’s empowerment throughout India.
