Panipat: A Beacon of Women’s Empowerment, Says PM Modi at Bima Sakhi Yojana Launch

Panipat, December 9 (NationPress) Declaring that ‘insurance for all’ is essential for social security and plays a pivotal role in eradicating poverty, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ in this city, which symbolizes women’s empowerment, in Haryana. This is the same location where he initiated the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ campaign on January 22, 2015.

The ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’, introduced by the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC), is designed to empower women between the ages of 18 and 70 who have completed their Class X education. This initiative embodies the government's dedication to promoting gender equality and empowering women across various sectors.

During the event, the Prime Minister distributed appointment certificates to aspiring Bima Sakhis, or insurance agents, under the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’, which aims to create job opportunities for two lakh women.

In his address, PM Modi remarked, “The importance of the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ lies not only in the income it generates but also in its role in advancing our nation. ‘Insurance for all’ is key to social security and is vital for poverty alleviation.”

He added, “Our government has undertaken remarkable initiatives for women’s empowerment over the past decade. Today, I’m thrilled to launch the Bima Sakhi Yojana and to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects in Panipat.”

He further stated, “India is making another significant stride towards women’s empowerment. This day holds special significance for several reasons. Today is the 9th, a number regarded as highly auspicious in sacred texts. It is linked to the nine forms of Nav Durga. Furthermore, the first meeting of the Constituent Assembly occurred on December 9. As the nation celebrates 75 years of our Constitution, this date inspires us to strive for comprehensive equality and development.”

Praising the BJP-led government in the state, under Nayab Singh Saini, he noted that the citizens of Haryana have embraced the principle of ‘Ek hain to safe hain’ (United we are safe), setting an example for the entire nation.

“A few years ago, I had the honor of launching the ‘Beti Bachao-Beti Padhao’ initiative from Panipat. Its positive effects have been felt not just in Haryana but throughout the country. Now, after a decade, the ‘Bima Sakhi Yojana’ is being launched for our sisters and daughters from this land of Panipat, which has become a symbol of women’s empowerment,” PM Modi stated.

Additionally, he laid the foundation for the main campus of Maharana Pratap Horticultural University in Karnal. This campus and six regional research stations, to be developed on 495 acres, will be established at an expenditure exceeding Rs 700 crore.

Expressing his steadfast bond with Haryana, the Prime Minister thanked the citizens for electing his party to power for the third consecutive term.

He mentioned that the newly formed state government has received acclaim despite being relatively new. He noted the significant number of youth securing permanent jobs here without corruption since the government’s establishment.

Thanking the women of Haryana, Modi reiterated the launch of the Bima Sakhi scheme, which aims to provide employment opportunities for women across the nation.

Reflecting on his earlier launch of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao initiative from Panipat, the Prime Minister emphasized its positive impact in both Haryana and nationwide.

He remarked that in Haryana alone, the lives of thousands of daughters have been safeguarded over the last decade. “Now, after ten years, the Bima Sakhi Yojana for our sisters and daughters is being inaugurated from this very land of Panipat.”

Highlighting the nation’s progress towards the vision of Viksit Bharat by 2047, PM Modi stated that the energy from every community and region has propelled India to great heights since 1947.

The Prime Minister emphasized the necessity of providing ample opportunities and removing barriers to empower women, asserting that empowering women unlocks new avenues for the country.

He noted that the foundation of the Bima Sakhi program is built on years of dedication and hard work.

Pointing out that many women lacked bank accounts even after six decades of independence, he expressed concern that women were excluded from the entire banking ecosystem.

Expressing pride over the 30 crore women accounts established under the Jan Dhan Yojana, PM Modi stated that his government launched these accounts to ensure that subsidies, such as gas subsidies, reach the responsible members of families.

Recalling that women previously did not have insurance, PM Modi noted that today marks the beginning of a campaign to empower millions of women to become insurance agents or Bima Sakhis. He added that women will now play a pivotal role in the growth of sectors like insurance.
