New Delhi, Jan 19 (NationPress) Raising concerns over ethical conduct, Union Minister of State for Railways Ravneet Singh Bittu criticized former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia for securing a Rs 1.4 crore education loan for his son from two Members of Parliament from Punjab.
Suggesting a potential 'quid pro quo' or a cash-for-Rajya Sabha seat scandal, the MoS from Punjab pointed out that Romesh Mittal, who provided the education loan for Sisodia’s son, is the sibling of AAP MP Ashok Mittal, proprietor of a private university.
In a similar vein, Guneet Arora, a relative of another AAP Rajya Sabha MP, extended a personal loan to Sisodia.
Bittu alleged that they aided affluent education magnates from Punjab to gain entry into the Rajya Sabha and subsequently borrowed money from them.
In light of previous scandals such as the liquor controversy and irregularities during the COVID-19 pandemic, he claimed Sisodia's son was sent to study in Canada through these financial channels.
BJP leaders are questioning the conditions under which Sisodia's wife, who is on bail due to accusations in the excise policy case, obtained personal loans totaling Rs 1.54 crore, given that Sisodia has reported his family's assets to be merely Rs 57 lakh.
Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva previously commented: 'Manish Sisodia's election affidavit reveals much, suggesting that unlike ordinary citizens, Sisodia has wealthy friends who lend him substantial sums, even long-term loans.' He raised concerns regarding the undisclosed agreements related to the Rs 1.54 crore loans given to the wife of the former minister responsible for the contentious liquor policy.
According to Sisodia’s affidavit, his wife’s educational funding loans are comprised of Rs 86 lakh from Romesh Chander Mittal, Rs 58 lakh from Guneet Arora, and Rs 10 lakh from Deepali.
The affidavit lists his son Meer Sisodia as a dependent and provides details regarding accounts at Scotiabank, located at 392 Bay Street, Toronto, where the AAP leader has opened three separate accounts for his son's education funds.
Moreover, the affidavit indicates foreign exchange assets amounting to approximately Canadian $3,980 (around Rs 2.4 lakh) in the foreign bank.
Previously, Bittu had unveiled the false assertions made by Arvind Kejriwal and the Manish Sisodia-led government regarding Delhi’s education system, while also emphasizing security failures in Punjab under AAP's governance, which contributed to the murder of singer Sidhu Moose Wala.
Union Minister Bittu condemned Kejriwal and Sisodia's misleading promotion of their educational initiatives across various states, labeling them as 'super flop' schemes.
He highlighted that during their 12 years in power, the AAP-led Delhi government has failed to establish any new educational institutions.
'The existing universities under Delhi’s administration are of such poor quality that Sisodia himself does not deem them fit for his children, opting instead to send his son abroad for education in Canada,' Bittu remarked.
