Bhubaneswar, April 1 (NationPress) The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) celebrated Odisha Day in a magnificent manner at its state headquarters, Sankha Bhavan.
The celebration included patriotic songs, floral tributes to esteemed leaders, and the recognition of notable Odias.
While addressing the audience, BJD President and former Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik conveyed his best wishes on the occasion of Odisha Day.
“The establishment of a distinct Odisha province was a significant milestone in India's historical timeline. Odisha became the first state in India to be formed on a linguistic basis,” elaborated the former Chief Minister.
He stressed that the aspiration of previous leaders was to create a prosperous and self-sufficient Odisha, and the BJD has been relentlessly pursuing that objective.
The BJD leader paid homage to Utkal Gaurav Madhusudan Das, Krushna Chandra Gajapati, the Maharaja of Parala, Rama Chandra Bhanja Deo, the king of Mayurbhanj, along with poets Gangadhar Meher and Fakir Mohan Senapati, who were instrumental in the unification and establishment of Odisha as a separate province.
The Leader of Opposition Patnaik also remarked that the BJD administration from 2000 to 2024 has ushered in a new chapter in Odisha's progress.
“Odisha has significantly contributed to the country’s growth journey. Presently, Odias are bringing honor to the state on both national and international platforms. During this period, Odisha achieved classical language status, established an Odia university, and initiated new research endeavors in universities across India,” shared the former Chief Minister.
Discussing the state's economic evolution, he noted, “In the last 24 years, Odisha has made extraordinary strides in poverty alleviation, reducing it from 70 percent to 10 percent.”
He added that the state is advancing on a robust foundation, and no one can impede its progress.
The BJD leader reaffirmed the aspiration of the legendary leader Biju Patnaik to position Odisha as the leading state in Asia.
“With united efforts and resolve, Biju Babu’s dream will undoubtedly be fulfilled,” Patnaik declared.
A fragmented Odisha was constituted as a separate province by the British Indian Government on April 1, 1936. The Odisha province was formed by amalgamating the Odia-speaking districts from Bihar and Orissa Province, Madras Presidency, and Central Provinces.
Odisha is recognized as the first state in India created on a linguistic foundation.
