Chandigarh, March 1 (IAMS) BJP national General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Saturday labeled the establishment of a Cabinet sub-committee aimed at tackling drugs in Punjab as yet another political strategy by the AAP government.

Chugh expressed discontent over the extended delay in the AAP government's action, led by the Bhagwant-Kejriwal duo, which took 36 months to confront an issue that should have been resolved within 36 hours of taking office in 2022. He questioned the capability of Cabinet ministers to undertake responsibilities traditionally assigned to the police, such as monitoring drug-peddlers.

“Since AAP assumed power in Punjab, drug and liquor mafias have thrived,” he noted.

In his remarks, he suggested that a dope test should be conducted on the Cabinet committee members and Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to assess their commitment to combating this issue.

He stated that following the party's significant defeat in the Delhi Assembly elections, AAP has suddenly become overly active in Punjab.

“This is a superficial attempt that will once again reveal AAP’s inefficiency and lack of dedication in the upcoming days.” In a media briefing, Chugh indicated that this would serve as yet another reason for the AAP government to waste taxpayer funds on misleading advertising.

“We have seen similar tactics in the areas of employment and health, and now, a new ruse is being played on the people of Punjab,” Chugh remarked.

In a bid to combat the drug issue, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced on Friday that he has instructed Police Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners, and Senior Superintendents of Police to make Punjab drug-free within three months.

He mentioned that the government plans to establish special courts to ensure quick trials for drug-related cases and guarantee the conviction of offenders.

During discussions with top police officials, CM Bhagwant Mann stated, “This is a historic moment as the Punjab government has embraced a zero-tolerance policy against drugs and is launching a campaign against this issue.”

CM Mann expressed confidence in the Punjab Police's long-standing tradition of addressing challenging law and order situations and hoped that the police force would uphold this esteemed legacy and achieve a drug-free state with the active collaboration of the community.

CM Mann assured that there are sufficient funds available and extended complete support and cooperation to the police and civil administration for this initiative.
