Chandigarh, March 13 (NationPress) BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Thursday took aim at the Bhagwant Mann administration and his party's National Convener Arvind Kejriwal for their assertions regarding their efforts to tackle the drug crisis in Punjab.
Chugh pointed out that while CM Mann and his "rubber-stamp" government are feigning a commitment to combat the drug issue in Punjab post-Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) defeat in Delhi, they are simultaneously neglecting to assist Central agencies with drug-related investigations, despite directives from the High Court.
The BJP leader articulated that this inconsistency demonstrates that AAP is merely deceiving the citizens of Punjab.
"They show no concern for the youth who are losing their lives daily due to drugs," he remarked.
Chugh referenced the Punjab and Haryana High Court's censure of the Punjab government for its lack of action.
"The court explicitly indicated that the Punjab government is not only hindering ongoing investigations mandated by the court but is also acting against public welfare," he stressed.
He noted that the High Court had stated that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had requested information from the Punjab government regarding drug-related cases in December 2024, yet after several months, the state has failed to respond, resulting in a standstill in the investigation of illegal drug trade.
Chugh mentioned that the High Court has now imposed a 10-day deadline on the Punjab government to furnish the necessary information to Central agencies and allow investigations to move forward.
The court had previously instructed the CBI, NCB, and police from Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh to collaborate and take action against drug trafficking.
Nevertheless, the inaction of the Mann-led Punjab government continues to be the primary barrier in combating drugs.
Chugh cautioned that Punjab's future "is jeopardized due to the widespread drug issue, yet the Aam Aadmi Party is politicizing this grave matter."
