BJP Claims Maternal Deaths in Karnataka Are Government-Facilitated

Belagavi (Karnataka), Dec 16 (NationPress) - Members of the Karnataka BJP Mahila Morcha organized a protest to denounce the troubling rise in maternal fatalities throughout the state, convening close to the Suvarna Vidhana Soudha in Belagavi on Monday.
BJP state Mahila President, K. Manjula, addressed the crowd, asserting that the party's members were protesting to hold the government accountable for the increasing number of post-delivery deaths.
“The maternal deaths occurring in Ballari are a result of decisions made by the Congress government,” K. Manjula claimed.
“The 2,200 Primary Health Centres (PHC) across the state have failed to provide adequate care to expectant mothers, leading to their admission to district hospitals where many unfortunately pass away. This is a significant factor contributing to the maternal mortality rate in the state,” Manjula stated.
“With a total of 2,200 PHCs in Karnataka, both the Women and Child Welfare Ministry and the Health and Family Welfare Departments receive funding from both the state and the central government,” she noted.
“Through the efforts of Anganwadi and Asha workers, every expectant mother from economically disadvantaged backgrounds is ensured safety,” she added.
Manjula further pointed out that to prevent maternal deaths caused by iron and calcium deficiencies, the Janani Suraksha Scheme has been implemented, along with the provision of ambulances to transport pregnant women from their residences to medical facilities.
“To promote the health of mothers during their nine months of pregnancy, the Matru Vandana scheme is in place, established by the Centre. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced significant initiatives to combat anemia among pregnant women, ensuring that iron and calcium supplements are distributed through the Family and Child Welfare Departments,” she remarked.
“Beyond maternal fatalities, numerous newborns have also died in Yadgir, Belagavi, and other districts. The Congress government will face the wrath of those infants and their families,” Manjula criticized.
“Expectant mothers are not receiving the necessary iron and calcium tablets. There is evident corruption that needs investigation. The government is failing miserably in safeguarding the health of new mothers, and the administration of IV fluids is contributing to the maternal death toll,” Manjula asserted.
BJP State President, B.Y. Vijayendra, also spoke to the demonstrators, attributing the surge in maternal deaths to the negligence of the state administration.
Vijayendra stated that the Ballari District In-Charge Minister, the Health Minister, the Medical Education Minister, and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah neglected to visit hospitals following the maternal fatalities.
“This arrogance displayed by the ineffective government stems from their position of power. We must advocate for new mothers from impoverished backgrounds and caution Chief Minister Siddaramaiah about his gross irresponsibility,” he urged.
