Davanagere (Karnataka), April 4 (NationPress) - The president of Karnataka BJP, B.Y. Vijayendra, asserted on Saturday that the Congress party is poised to lose both the Davanagere South and Bagalkot constituencies, claiming that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah is “sleepless” due to the impending defeat.

Speaking at an event in Davanagere South, Vijayendra noted that the atmosphere is favorable for BJP's success in these elections and accused the Chief Minister of being “confused” about which constituency to prioritize.

“Currently, the backward classes are aligning with the BJP. People from all backgrounds have made a commitment to support our candidate, Srinivas Daskariappa,” he mentioned.

He also acknowledged the efforts of Raghu Koutilya, the president of the state Backward Classes Morcha, and other party officials in their campaigning efforts.

In his criticism of the Congress party, Vijayendra alleged corruption, claiming that funds from the Valmiki Development Corporation were misappropriated and that money is being distributed to voters in Davanagere South.

“Our party workers are saying, ‘Shamanur’s cash, vote for BJP’. You cannot purchase votes with corrupt finances. The voters have made their decision to support the BJP,” he stated.

He further claimed that during B.S. Yediyurappa's tenure as Chief Minister, Rs 550 crore was allocated to backward classes corporations, whereas the current government has allocated only Rs 200–250 crore.

Vijayendra accused the Congress of treating backward classes merely as a vote bank and urged voters to back BJP candidate Srinivasadas Kariyappa.

Additionally, he expressed gratitude towards JD(S) workers for their support of BJP candidates and mentioned that Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was present and endorsing the campaign.

On another note, former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai challenged the state government to a debate regarding the contributions made by BJP and other non-Congress governments towards irrigation.

In a media interaction in Bagalkot, Bommai raised questions about the newly proposed A and B irrigation schemes, asserting that such classifications do not exist in states like Maharashtra or Andhra Pradesh.

“There is only one Krishna scheme. We successfully completed the Mulwad lift irrigation project and the Chimmalagi project,” he stated.

He emphasized that non-Congress governments, including the BJP, have significantly contributed to the advancement of irrigation.

“We initiated the Kerur irrigation project in Siddaramaiah’s Badami constituency and the Revansiddheshwar irrigation project in Vijayapura. We also commenced the lake-filling project,” he added.

Bommai concluded by stating that there is potential to ensure sufficient water supply to Bagalkot and challenged the government to debate the contributions of different administrations to the irrigation sector.

Point of View

This unfolding narrative reflects the intense political rivalry in Karnataka. The BJP's strategy to capitalize on discontent within the backward classes juxtaposed with the Congress's alleged missteps makes for a significant electoral battleground. The rhetoric surrounding corruption and governance will be pivotal in shaping voter sentiment.
