BJP's B.Y. Vijayendra Predicts Bye-Election Defeat for Congress
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, April 14 (NationPress) The President of BJP State and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, asserted on Tuesday that regardless of how much the Congress party and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah make noise, they will not secure victories in the recent bye-elections held in the state.
During a press interaction on Tuesday, Vijayendra confidently stated that the BJP is poised to win in both Davanagere South and Bagalkot constituencies.
He claimed that the populace has grown disillusioned with the Congress administration due to a breakdown in governance and a noticeable lack of development.
Moreover, he accused the state government of engaging in minority appeasement while disregarding the concerns of Hindus, leading the electorate to support the BJP.
Vijayendra also issued a challenge to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah for a public debate to compare the developmental achievements in Shivamogga district during the BJP regime under B.S. Yediyurappa and those in Mysuru under Siddaramaiah.
He criticized the government for its alleged inability to protect Mysore Silk in Mysuru, claiming it is attempting to convert the area into a stadium instead of preserving this cultural heritage.
He emphasized that despite the speeches from Congress leaders, the outcome on May 4 during the vote counting will provide a clear indication of the people’s preferences.
It is noteworthy that the primary contest in Bagalkot features Congress candidate Umesh Meti against BJP candidate Veeranna Charantimath, following the death of Congress MLA HY Meti.
In Davanagere South, the Congress has put forth Samarth Mallikarjun, while the BJP has nominated Srinivas T Dasakariyappa. The Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) is optimistic that the fierce competition between the BJP and Congress will work to their advantage, fielding Afsar Kodlipet as their candidate. This bye-election was necessitated by the passing of veteran Congress leader, MLA Shamanur Shivashankarappa.
The results of these bye-elections represent a significant point of contention for both national parties and hold substantial importance for Vijayendra, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, and Deputy Chief Minister and State Congress President D.K. Shivakumar.
