Kolkata, March 22 (NationPress) BJP leader Dilip Ghosh on Saturday accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) government of targeting individuals who continue to fight for justice in the R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital rape and murder case, alleging that the state is trying to intimidate them into silence.

He emphasized that the BJP would not stay silent regarding the handling of the case and would persist in its campaign against the government until it is removed from power.

Ghosh's comments were made in reaction to the transfer of senior doctor Subarna Goswami, who became a leading advocate in the medical community's protests regarding the R.G. Kar rape and murder case last August.

Goswami has been reassigned to Darjeeling in a lower position, which many perceive as a punitive measure.

Speaking to IANS, Ghosh stated, "Dr. Subarna Goswami had raised his voice about the case, and now he is being targeted. This government is attempting to scare those who oppose it by shifting them, but they will not succeed in suppressing the movement."

"With the resurgence of the movement, those leading it are being targeted. The government cannot stifle a democratic movement merely by transferring a few individuals. Society as a whole stands against the TMC government in the Abhaya case. We will continue our campaign until this government is ousted," he added.

According to a notice issued by the state Health & Family Welfare Department, Goswami, who is currently the Deputy Chief Medical Officer of Health (CMOH)-II in East Burdwan district, has been reassigned as Superintendent of the Darjeeling TB Hospital -- a lower-ranking role.

In response to the decision, Goswami remarked that while he must comply with the transfer as a government employee, its nature clearly signifies vendetta.

"My new posting is a rank lower than my current position. Additionally, the hospital in Darjeeling has minimal workload, as very few patients are admitted there. This marks my eighth transfer under the current TMC administration, five of which have been at the same rank," he stated.

He further asserted that the transfer would not dissuade him from continuing the movement regarding the R.G. Kar case. "My struggle will persist. It's not just me; others involved in the movement are also being targeted. I was interrogated by the police during the peak of the protests, but I am not afraid," he added.

Goswami, along with prominent senior doctor Kunal Sarkar, had been summoned to the Kolkata Police headquarters last year and questioned by then Police Commissioner Vineet Kumar Goyal during the height of the protests.
