New Delhi, Jan 21 (NationPress) The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday accused Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Saurabh Bharadwaj of disrespecting the Constitution and offending the sentiments of Dalit and tribal communities.
Delhi BJP President Virendra Sachdeva stated that Arvind Kejriwal, the National Convenor of AAP, should apologize for Bharadwaj's statements and called for his expulsion from the party for what he termed an offensive and inappropriate comment.
The uproar was triggered by remarks made by Bharadwaj on Tuesday, where he suggested that the BJP-led NDA appoints Chief Ministers and Presidents in a way that prevents any leader from emerging as a competitor to the Prime Minister's dominance.
In his statements, Bharadwaj also opined that newly appointed BJP National President Nitin Nabin does not possess the political stature to be considered among the nation’s elite leaders.
The BJP labeled Bharadwaj's remarks as offensive and politically charged, demanding accountability from AAP’s leadership regarding the matter.
During a media briefing, Sachdeva remarked, "The comments made by Saurabh Bharadwaj under the direction of Arvind Kejriwal are an affront to Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution and to our Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. His statements yesterday were unfounded and reflect his desperation."
Pointing out specific remarks from Bharadwaj's recent press conference, the Delhi BJP leader condemned the entirety of his statement. He emphasized, "It is crucial to highlight the concluding lines of his remarks. He mentioned the selection of two Presidents during the NDA regime, asserting that 'for the presidency, they have selected individuals who make other leaders appear inferior.' This comment from Saurabh Bharadwaj is utterly unacceptable."
Sachdeva articulated that the election of Ram Nath Kovind and Droupadi Murmu as Presidents is a significant honor for the nation, especially for marginalized groups.
"The ascension of Ram Nath Kovind, hailing from the Dalit community, alongside Droupadi Murmu from the tribal community, elevates the pride of all Dalit and tribal individuals in India. It is deplorable that such an indecent remark was made by Saurabh Bharadwaj," he stated.
He further urged Kejriwal to take swift action against Bharadwaj.
Sachdeva concluded by asserting that Arvind Kejriwal should not only expel the AAP leader from the party but also publicly apologize for remarks that the BJP believes undermine constitutional values and social respect.
