BJP Criticizes Kejriwal's Demand for Jat Quota as Election Strategy

New Delhi, Jan 9 (NationPress) The BJP launched a strong critique of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convenor and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for his recent correspondence with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in which he advocated for the addition of Jats and five additional communities to the Centre's Other Backward Classes (OBCs) list.
Kejriwal asserted that his letter aimed to secure reservations for Jats and other communities already recognized in Delhi's OBC roster, enabling access to Central government positions and educational institutions.
"This initiative will pave the way for enhanced job and educational prospects for Jats in Delhi University, Safdarjung-RML-AIIMS medical colleges, and employment opportunities within Delhi Police, NDMC, and DDA," Kejriwal emphasized, vowing to advocate for Jat rights.
He accused Prime Minister Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah of having made four commitments to incorporate Jats into the Central OBC list but failing to fulfill them. Additionally, he urged for the inclusion of four other communities alongside Rawat in the Central OBC category.
In response to Kejriwal's letter, BJP's Bijwasan candidate, Kailash Gahlot, remarked to IANS, "While I'm pleased to see the letter, it's notable that he has only now acknowledged the Jats. Over the past decade, he has not raised this issue. With elections approaching, he suddenly needs Jat votes, which makes this a clear attempt at vote bank politics. It's strictly political."
Gahlot dismissed Kejriwal's motives as self-serving, stating, "The public is not naive. They understand what's happening. The BJP will form the government in Delhi, and this time, there will definitely be a BJP Chief Minister," he asserted.
Speaking to IANS, Arvinder Singh Lovely, BJP candidate from Gandhi Nagar Assembly, stated, "These days, Kejriwal writes anything. Even if reporters approach him, he may promise them subsidies by evening."
Echoing these sentiments, BJP leader Manjinder Singh Sirsa told IANS, "These letters will yield no results. Politicians like him alter their positions daily. The public recognizes Arvind Kejriwal's tactics; he is aware of his declining electoral prospects and is resorting to new distractions."
Previously, BJP MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri criticized Kejriwal for misleading Jats regarding reservations, stating, "Jats are already included in Delhi's OBC list. Kejriwal should clarify how many jobs he has provided to Jats in the past ten years," he remarked to IANS.
The BJP dismissed Kejriwal's requests as mere election-driven tactics, suggesting they reveal his desperation to attract the crucial Jat electorate in Delhi amidst concerns over the impending Assembly elections.
