New Delhi, Oct 8 (NationPress) BJP National Spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Wednesday launched a fierce critique against the Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress (TMC) government in West Bengal, asserting that it has entrenched political violence and corruption while the state grapples with a natural disaster.
Speaking at a press conference at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Poonawalla stated, “In West Bengal today, TMC represents not just Trinamool Congress but a ‘Talibani Mentality and Culture.’ In the past 24 hours, it has taken on another meaning — T for Tribal atrocities, M for atrocities against women, and C for Citizens left helpless.
Poonawalla condemned the state government for its alleged inaction during the recent floods and landslides in North Bengal, which have resulted in over 35 fatalities and displaced more than 50,000 individuals.
“This calamity stems from the corruption and greed of the Trinamool government,” he remarked, adding that Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was “celebrating as if it were a carnival” while citizens’ homes were under water.
He accused Trinamool members of orchestrating violent assaults on three BJP leaders from the tribal community in the last 24 hours.
“Our MP Khagen Murmu was viciously attacked and is currently in the ICU with severe head injuries. Chief Whip Shankar Ghosh and MLA Manoj Kumar Uraon faced violence while aiding flood victims,” he noted.
Poonawalla claimed that under CM Banerjee’s leadership, political violence has been “institutionalised, normalised, and legitimised,” adding, “If even an MP and MLA are unsafe, what does that say about the state of law and order?”
Targeting Congress leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, he accused them of “selective outrage.”
He questioned Priyanka Gandhi’s silence regarding the attack on a tribal leader while she “speaks passionately about Muslims in Gaza.”
He also referenced the arrest of Telangana Congress leader Naveen Yadav for alleged voter ID fraud as evidence of “vote theft” within Congress.
“This illustrates the true nature of the INDI alliance — silence on tribal injustices, violence, and corruption when it occurs under their governance,” he concluded.
