New Delhi, Feb 25 (NationPress) On Tuesday, the Congress party accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) administration in Uttar Pradesh of depriving reserved communities of their reservation benefits by appointing candidates from unreserved categories for teacher positions meant for reserved posts.
Labeling this a 'recruitment scam', the party has called for an extensive investigation into the matter.
During a press conference at the AICC office, Congress MP and Chairman of the UP Congress SC Department, Tanuj Punia, stated that since 2018, the UP government has hired 69,000 teachers.
Among these, 18,500 positions were designated for reserved categories, including Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes (OBCs).
However, Punia asserted that only 2,637 of these reserved positions were filled by candidates from the designated communities, with the rest occupied by individuals from unreserved categories.
He urged for a high-level judicial examination of this situation.
Punia contended that this is indicative of a broader BJP strategy to undermine reservation policies. He highlighted that Congress leaders, including party president Mallikarjun Kharge and Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, have persistently cautioned about the BJP's intentions to modify the constitution and dismantle reservations in India.
Punia emphasized that the actions of the Uttar Pradesh government reinforce the warnings made by Congress.
He further stated that Congress would oppose any such changes and demanded a judicial probe into the matter, voicing concern over the anger and dissatisfaction among SC/ST/OBC aspirants who have been denied their rightful opportunities.
"The 18,500 reserved posts must be filled without delay, and deserving candidates should receive their rightful positions," he stated, urging teachers to protest against the injustices perpetrated against them.
