Agartala, Sep 3 (NationPress) - Tripura's Chief Minister Manik Saha announced on Wednesday that the BJP is completely ready for the forthcoming elections for the Village Committee and the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC).
The elections for the Village Committee, which is akin to the Gram Panchayat, have been pending for over a year, while the politically significant TTAADC elections are anticipated to occur by March next year. Currently, the 30-member TTAADC is under the administration of the BJP's ally, the Tipra Motha Party (TMP).
The ruling BJP is focused on reinforcing its organizational presence in the TTAADC, which oversees two-thirds of Tripura's 10,491 sq km area and is inhabited by more than 1.2 million individuals, approximately 84 percent of whom belong to tribal communities.
Saha, a former state BJP President, emphasized the importance of a special organizational meeting held with state tribal leaders at the party's headquarters as part of the party’s election preparations.
“The primary goal is to discuss the challenges faced by the Janajati community and to find ways for our party and the government to collaboratively address these issues in the near future, thereby conveying a strong message to all Janajatis in the state. We have been planning this meeting for several days, and today we made it a reality,” the Chief Minister stated.
He pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has consistently highlighted the significance of advancing the Janajati community, which has not received adequate attention historically.
“Since 2014, when Modi assumed office as Prime Minister, numerous initiatives have been launched for the benefit of the Janajatis. Following his vision, the Tripura government is also making relentless efforts. Our aim is to reach every corner of the Janajati community and facilitate their development,” Saha further explained.
He also underscored the importance of the upcoming elections, stating, “We are thoroughly prepared for both the Village Committee and TTAADC elections. Nevertheless, this meeting is not being convened strictly in the context of elections. Its main focus is on serving the people and addressing their concerns.”
Attending the meeting were BJP state President Rajib Bhattacharya, party General Secretary (Organisation) for Tripura-Assam Ravindra Raju, Tribal Welfare Minister Bikas Debbarma, Industries and Commerce Minister Santana Chakma, BJP’s Janajati Morcha President Parimal Debbarma, and other tribal representatives from district and mandal levels.
