New Delhi, July 17 (NationPress) BJP's National Spokesperson Syed Zafar Islam fiercely criticized Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday. He accused Gandhi of inciting anarchy and threatening a duly-elected chief minister with imprisonment.
In response to LoP Gandhi’s remarks that Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma was behaving like a "raja" and would be "sent to jail" for "corruption and land theft," Islam remarked, "This is akin to a thief lecturing on home security. The entire Gandhi family is currently out on bail. Rahul Gandhi needs to cease his attempts to instigate anarchy."
Speaking to the media in New Delhi, Islam asserted that Gandhi’s behavior was undemocratic and could have dire repercussions.
"His threats against an elected Chief Minister could soon see him facing legal troubles himself," he warned. He further criticized Gandhi's governance track record, labeling the Congress-led model a total failure.
"The so-called Rahul Model has failed across all states—be it Himachal Pradesh, Karnataka, or Telangana. None of the pledges made before gaining power have been realized," Islam stated, adding, "The public has persistently rejected this model."
He emphasized, "Rahul Gandhi sees himself as a king, but he has faltered three times in the eyes of the electorate."
Islam also defended Himanta Biswa Sarma’s political history, noting that Sarma had previously been a member of Congress but departed due to the party's internal turmoil.
"Today, he is the Chief Minister of Assam because of the people's will, not due to Rahul Gandhi’s favor," asserted Islam.
This controversy arose as LoP Gandhi addressed party workers in Chaygaon, around 40 km from Guwahati, stating that CM Sarma acts like a "raja" but is "haunted by fear" and will be held accountable for his actions.
Referring to numerous eviction drives statewide, LoP Gandhi claimed that the youth, farmers, and daily wage earners of Assam desire to see the Chief Minister incarcerated because "they know he is corrupt and steals land from the people relentlessly."
"Observe closely—his expression on television reveals fear. He recognizes that Congress workers will ensure he faces justice," Gandhi added.
Meanwhile, Islam highlighted the BJP’s continuous electoral victories, stating, "The public has faith in us due to our effective governance and unwavering commitment against corruption. This is why we prevail consistently."
Regarding the worsening law and order situation in Bihar raised by RJD’s Tejashwi Yadav, Islam countered, "From 1990 to 2005, under Lalu Yadav, Bihar was synonymous with lawlessness."
"Now, Tejashwi and the INDIA bloc are attempting to propagate the same chaos," Islam contended.
