New Delhi, March 25 (NationPress) BJP leader and the head of the party’s National Information and Technology Department, Amit Malviya, on Tuesday criticized the Opposition Congress for spreading misinformation regarding the Agniveer scheme aimed at military recruitment.
“The greatest falsehood about Agniveer has now been revealed,” stated Malviya, condemning Congress for suggesting that the scheme was implemented without the Army's consultation.
He shared a video featuring former Army Chief General M.M. Naravane in a podcast, writing on platform X: “General M.M. Naravane, whose statements were used as a basis for the claim that the Modi government rolled out the Agniveer scheme without any consultation, has clarified that the scheme was introduced following discussions and insights from all relevant parties.”
“Another smear campaign by the opposition has failed,” Malviya added.
Home Minister Amit Shah previously targeted Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi for his comments on the Agniveer Yojana, branding him a “lying machine.”
“Rahul Gandhi claims that the Agniveer Yojana was initiated because the government does not wish to provide pensionable jobs. I assure you, every Agniveer will receive a pensionable job,” stated the Home Minister ahead of last year's Haryana Assembly elections.
“Currently, Rahul Gandhi is in Haryana. He has asserted that the Agniveer Scheme will ruin the lives of our youth. I urge you not to trust him as he does not comprehend this scheme. The Agniveer Scheme will maintain the youthfulness of our forces,” the Home Minister said at a public gathering.
Previously, LoP Rahul Gandhi criticized the BJP-led central government, claiming that the Agnipath scheme was introduced to deprive Agniveers of their pension, canteen access for their families, and their martyr status.
Dismissing concerns regarding the future of Agniveers, the Ministry of Home Affairs announced that 10 percent of vacancies will be reserved for ex-Agniveers in recruitment for the Constable (General Duty)/Rifleman positions in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles, including CISF and BSF.
Additionally, there will be a relaxation in the upper age limit and exemption from the Physical Efficiency Test, the ministry confirmed.
