Key Takeaways
Bengaluru, March 2 (NationPress) Former Karnataka Chief Minister and BJP MP Basavaraj Bommai urged world leaders to take immediate action to halt the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran, warning that China and Russia are closely monitoring the situation. Speaking at a media briefing in Bengaluru on Monday, he expressed grave concerns regarding the intensifying warfare, noting that while Israel is conducting strikes against Iran, the latter is countering, leading to a dangerously volatile environment.
Bommai emphasized that not just Israel, but the United States is also involved in the current turmoil. The Middle East is pivotal for global economic and cultural stability and has been a battleground for numerous conflicts, he remarked.
“These conflicts are fueled by oil and religious tensions. The United States is attempting to exert control over oil resources and is not in a position to listen to anyone's counsel,” he stated.
When questioned about the potential for a third world war, the former Chief Minister indicated that China and Russia have yet to engage but are strategically observing. Their involvement could lead to a significant escalation. He stressed that immediate intervention by global leaders is essential to prevent a larger disaster.
Addressing concerns about Kannadigas reportedly stranded in the UAE, Bommai mentioned that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, the central government has successfully facilitated the evacuation of Indians during previous international crises.
He assured that necessary measures would be undertaken once the situation normalizes, highlighting that conflicts are impacting cities like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Saudi Arabia, raising alarms as many Indians reside in these areas.
The Indian government must collaborate with all embassies to guarantee food and shelter for affected citizens, he asserted.
With India being reliant on oil imports, Bommai warned of potential severe economic consequences. He recalled a decade ago when people faced long queues for fuel, suggesting that a similar scenario could surface again.
Reflecting on violence in neighboring Pakistan and other countries, Bommai remarked that India has not encountered such instability, noting recent incidents of gunfire in Pakistan. He emphasized that such unrest will not be permitted in India.
