Jaipur, Nov 21 (NationPress) A delegation from the British Deputy High Commission engaged in talks with Principal Secretary of Mines, T. Ravikant, on Friday to investigate opportunities for involvement in mineral exploration ventures in Rajasthan.
The group comprised Gujarat–Rajasthan Deputy High Commissioner Stephen Hickling, Senior Advisor (Ahmedabad) Momita Bhattacharya, Senior Trade Advisor Anoop Narayan, and Brahmadatha Maya.
Throughout the discussions, the team conveyed a keen interest in partnering on exploration and mining initiatives, especially concerning critical and strategic minerals.
They indicated that the Deputy High Commission is already collaborating with companies in Gujarat and Odisha and is now exploring similar prospects in Rajasthan, noting the state's vast potential in the mining sector.
Principal Secretary Ravikant pointed out that Rajasthan is rich in diverse mineral deposits. He mentioned that rare earth element (REE) resources have been identified in the Siwana Ring area, alongside other critical minerals like graphite, uranium, and potash.
He remarked that under the National Critical Minerals Mission, the Government of India is prioritizing REE exploration and mining. Organizations such as Indian Rare Earths Limited, Oil India, and AI/ML-driven startups are being urged to join these initiatives.
Ravikant added that collaboration with Rajasthan State Mines and Minerals, the Rajasthan State Mineral Exploration Trust, or entities recognized by the Government of India is feasible, contingent on fulfilling necessary formalities at the departmental level, including approvals from the Ministry of External Affairs.
He emphasized that the state government is dedicated to encouraging innovation and implementing sustainable mining practices.
Also present during the discussions were Additional Director of Geology Alok Prakash Jain and Superintending Geologist Sanjay Saxena.
