Hyderabad, March 21 (NationPress) A delegation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), spearheaded by its Working President K.T. Rama Rao, has set off for Chennai to attend a conference of southern states scheduled for Saturday. The agenda is to deliberate on the proposed delimitation of Lok Sabha constituencies.
The party has announced that Rama Rao will address the current delimitation policy, shedding light on the negative impacts it has inflicted and is likely to continue inflicting on southern states. He will also suggest actionable measures to address this injustice.
Under his guidance, a team of senior BRS leaders will engage in the conference convened by DMK President and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M. K. Stalin.
The meeting, which will be chaired by Stalin, aims to tackle the contentious delimitation issue and its potential to compromise the parliamentary representation of South Indian states.
KTR, as the BRS leader is commonly known, has cautioned that the existing delimitation policy diminishes the representation of southern states, significantly affecting those states that are vital to the country's economic growth.
The BRS has consistently opposed this policy and will elaborate on its position during Saturday's gathering.
KTR has emphasized that the BRS has been proactive in identifying and raising awareness about the injustices faced by southern states, continually informing the public and leading the charge on this matter.
He expressed optimism that, following Saturday's conference, all southern states would unite and stand firm for the future of their people, who have significantly contributed to the nation’s advancement. The BRS leadership believes that this meeting will bolster the unity of southern states and convey a strong message of dissent to the central government regarding the proposed delimitation policy.
A group of DMK leaders previously met KTR in Hyderabad on March 13 to extend an invitation for the March 22 meeting.
KTR criticized the central government’s approach to delimitation, which is set to rely on population figures from the latest census. He contended that this strategy would disproportionately disadvantage states such as Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka, which have effectively adhered to the Centre’s family planning initiatives over the years.
