BSF Facilitates Final Farewell Between Siblings at India-Bangladesh Border

Kolkata, Jan 3 (NationPress) In light of the escalating tensions along the International Border stemming from the current situation in the neighboring country, the Border Security Force (BSF) made arrangements for a woman from Bangladesh to have a final farewell with her brother, who passed away in India.
This poignant event took place at the Mustafapur Border Outpost (BOP) in the North 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, where personnel from the 67 Battalion of the BSF are stationed.
According to N.K. Pandey, Director Inspector General (DIG) and spokesperson for the South Bengal Frontier of the BSF, "Despite being on high alert, the BSF showcased its compassionate side by allowing the family to meet. During the day, a panchayat member from Gangulai, a village near the India-Bangladesh border in Bagdah, North 24-Parganas, notified the company commander of Mustafapur BOP about the passing of Abdul Khalid Mandal, who resided in Gangulai."
"The panchayat member urged that Mandal's sister, who lives in Sardar Baripota, a border village in Bangladesh, wanted to see her brother for the last time. Aware of the emotional weight of this request, the company commander promptly contacted his counterpart in the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) to facilitate the woman's visit to the zero-line of the International Border Barrier (IBBR)," added the BSF DIG.
Mandal's bier was transported to the zero-line from Gangulia village under the careful watch of the BSF personnel. It was placed at the zero-line prior to the arrival of the BGB, who escorted the woman and her family to the location.
The final encounter between the brother and sister was filled with deep emotion, underscoring the enduring bond between individuals on both sides of the IBBR.
Mandal's sister had previously lived in India before marrying a Bangladeshi national and relocating to her new home across the border.
After this significant meeting for the family, Mandal's remains were returned to his village for the last rites. Family members conveyed their heartfelt thanks to both the BSF and BGB for facilitating this final reunion, according to Pandey.
According to him, "BSF personnel not only work tirelessly to secure the nation's borders but also exhibit compassion, ready to address the social needs of those living near the International Border."
