BSF's All-Female Rowing Expedition Concludes in Kolkata

Kolkata, Dec 24 (NationPress) The remarkable 2,500-km river rafting journey undertaken by an all-female team from the Border Security Force (BSF) came to a close at Diamond Harbour in West Bengal on Tuesday, where it was officially concluded by Daljit Singh Chawdhary, the BSF Director General (DG).

This expedition, which began on November 2 from Gangotri, saw twenty female border guards successfully reach Sagar Island—the point where the Bhagirathi River meets the sea—on Sunday.

Jointly organized by the BSF and the National Mission for Clean Ganga, the expedition was met with great enthusiasm.

After offering prayers at the Kapil Muni Temple on Sagar Island, the team made their way back to Diamond Harbour, where they were greeted by the DG of BSF and the ADG of the Eastern Command, BSF. This unprecedented journey spanned 53 days and served as a platform to advocate for women empowerment and the importance of maintaining the cleanliness of the Ganga (Bhagirathi) in every community they encountered,” stated N.K. Pandey, spokesperson for BSF, South Bengal Frontier.

During the event, a short film showcasing their adventure was presented, followed by Chawdhary presenting BSF DG's Commendation Certificates to the participants and officers involved.

“Throughout the journey, numerous awareness programs and rallies were conducted in various cities, towns, and villages. Thousands of locals and students, including women, took part in these initiatives. The focus was on promoting river conservation, social empowerment, and encouraging communities to clean riverbanks and ghats,” the spokesperson added.

“Interactive sessions and quiz competitions were particularly aimed at the youth, raising awareness about water conservation, pollution control, and the ecological significance of the river,” he continued.

After engaging with the team members and officers, Chawdhary emphasized the expedition's dual purpose: to promote the cleanliness of the Ganga and to highlight the crucial roles women fulfill in all sectors, including national security.

“This all-women Ganga River Rafting Expedition is a testament to the unparalleled bravery and dedication of the female border guards of BSF. This initiative not only empowers women but also reinforces our national goal of a clean Ganga and the protection of the environment,” concluded the DG.
