Kolkata, February 18 (NationPress) The Calcutta High Court has granted conditional bail to Sujay Krishna Bhadra, the main suspect in the multi-crore cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal.

Previously, the court had provided him bail concerning a case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Nonetheless, Bhadra remained incarcerated as the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had also placed him under arrest.

However, following the ruling by the division bench of Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Sinha Roy, Bhadra is set to be released from custody.

While granting the interim bail, the bench noted that this decision was made on humanitarian grounds to ensure Bhadra receives adequate medical treatment.

Additionally, the court highlighted that medical evaluations indicate Bhadra requires immediate care.

Nonetheless, this interim bail comes with specific conditions.

The bench instructed the CBI to monitor Bhadra consistently and mentioned that personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) may assist in this oversight.

Bhadra will be prohibited from interacting with any individual, including political figures, except for those involved in his treatment. He is also required to provide both of his mobile numbers to the CBI and remain accessible.

The interim bail is effective until the end of March this year, with the subsequent hearing scheduled for March 20.

Earlier this month, after three unsuccessful attempts, CBI officials successfully acquired voice samples from Bhadra, who had also provided his voice samples to the ED.

Notable figures implicated in this case include former West Bengal Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General Partha Chatterjee, his associate Arpita Mukherjee, and his son-in-law Kalyanmoy Bhattacharya.

The Babli Chatterjee Memorial Trust, named after Chatterjee's late spouse, is also listed as an accused party in the ED charge sheet. Allegations suggest that illicit funds were disguised as donations to this trust, thereby misappropriating them.
