Kolkata, April 22 (NationPress) A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court, on Tuesday, granted an extension of two months to the interim bail period for Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a key suspect in the cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal. The earlier bail, provided on medical grounds, concluded on Tuesday. Bhadra’s legal team approached Justice Suvra Ghosh for the extension.

Following a thorough hearing in the morning, Justice Ghosh approved the extension of the interim bail until June 16. The case will be reviewed again on this date. The Calcutta High Court also instructed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to present a comprehensive medical report regarding Bhadra on that date.

During the session, the court also inquired if Bhadra was adhering to all the conditions and stipulations set forth during his bail.

When the interim bail was initially granted in February of this year, the division bench mandated that the CBI continuously monitor Bhadra's activities and movements, utilizing personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) for this purpose.

Bhadra was prohibited from meeting anyone, including political figures, other than those involved in his treatment. Additionally, he was required to provide the CBI with both of his mobile numbers and remain accessible at all times.

This marks the second extension of Bhadra's interim bail. Initially, the Calcutta High Court’s division bench, comprising Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Sinha Roy, granted him bail until March 31 on medical grounds.

On March 21, Bhadra’s attorney sought an extension from the same division bench, leading to an extension until April 22.

Bhadra was first detained in the school job case by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in 2023, followed by his arrest by the CBI, which is conducting a concurrent investigation into the matter.
