Kolkata, March 21 (NationPress) Sujay Krishna Bhadra, a key figure in the cash-for-school job scandal in West Bengal, has filed a request with a division bench of the Calcutta High Court to extend his interim bail, which was granted on medical grounds.

The interim bail, awarded to Bhadra last month by the division bench comprising Justice Arijit Banerjee and Justice Apurba Sinha Roy, is due to expire on March 31. With only 10 days remaining, Bhadra has approached the same bench seeking an extension of this bail.

The hearing is scheduled for March 24. It remains uncertain whether the CBI counsel will contest his request for an extension. Reports suggest that the decision will hinge on the arguments presented by Bhadra’s legal team and his latest medical evaluations.

Despite being on bail, Bhadra must adhere to various restrictions imposed by the division bench earlier. His activities are monitored by officials from the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Moreover, Bhadra is prohibited from meeting anyone except individuals involved in his treatment, with a specific restriction on interactions with political figures.

He is also obligated to keep both of his mobile phones accessible so that CBI officials can reach him as needed.

The trial related to the case, registered by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) concerning the alleged school-job scam, commenced last month in a special court for the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) in Kolkata.

In addition to Bhadra, notable individuals implicated include Partha Chatterjee, former Education Minister and Trinamool Congress Secretary General, along with his close associate Arpita Mukherjee.

The Babli Chatterjee Memorial Trust, established in memory of Chatterjee's late wife, is also named in the ED charge sheet as an implicated entity. Allegations suggest that illicit funds were disguised as donations to this trust and subsequently diverted.
