Kolkata, April 10 (NationPress) A single-judge bench of the Calcutta High Court has granted permission for Suvendu Adhikari, the leader of the opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, to organize a rally in Kolkata on April 12 to celebrate Hanuman Jayanti.

Justice Tirthankar Ghosh of the single-judge bench has imposed several conditions for the rally, which will take place along a designated route in North Kolkata and conclude at a Lord Hanuman temple.

According to the bench's directives, the rally is scheduled from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 12, with a cap of 250 participants. Attendees must comply with sound pollution regulations, and the use of DJs is explicitly prohibited.

The opposition leader sought Justice Ghosh’s intervention after the Kolkata Police initially denied approval for the rally commemorating Hanuman Jayanti. Following a hearing on Thursday, Justice Ghosh granted conditional authorization to proceed with the event.

BJP leaders in the state have noted that permissions for Hindu religious processions are often met with denial or silence from the police. They highlighted the recent approval of two Ram Navami processions in Kolkata and the adjacent Howrah district on April 6, granted by the Calcutta High Court.

“For any event related to Hindu religious festivals or political activities by opposition parties, the only recourse is to appeal to the Calcutta High Court for permission, given the typical police denials,” remarked a member of the state BJP committee.
