Kolkata, March 21 (NationPress) The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials have now summoned security personnel who were on duty during the tragic night of the R.G. Kar rape and murder incident.
Sources indicate that the eight security staff members have been requested to report to the CBI's Central Government Office (CGO) complex located in Salt Lake, Kolkata, this weekend.
This summons to the eight security individuals follows a similar request made to seven nursing staff members who were present on duty the night of the tragedy, where the body of the victim, a junior female doctor, was discovered on the morning of August 9, 2024.
Four of the seven nursing staff members who received summons appeared at the central agency office on Thursday and underwent extensive questioning for several hours. However, CBI officials remain tight-lipped regarding the specifics of the revelations made during the interrogation.
The investigative team anticipates concluding the questioning of the remaining three nursing staff members, after which the eight security personnel will be interrogated.
Sources reveal that the investigative team is making every effort to finalize the interrogation process for both the nursing staff and the security personnel by this weekend or, at the latest, by Monday. This is in light of a new hearing in the R.G. Kar rape and murder case scheduled to commence at the Calcutta High Court's single-judge bench presided over by Justice Tirthankar Ghosh next week.
As the new hearing is set to begin at the Calcutta High Court, there will be three concurrent hearings across three separate courts regarding this case. A three-judge bench of the Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice of India Sanjiv Khanna, along with a special court in Kolkata, will also be addressing the matter.
The CBI is expected to file a supplementary charge sheet soon in the special court that will outline the evidence tampering angle present during the initial investigation phase conducted by the Kolkata Police.
