New Delhi, March 29 (NationPress) In 2024, a total of 267 violent incidents linked to Maoists were recorded in Chhattisgarh, while Jharkhand followed with 69 incidents, according to the latest official statistics from the Ministry of Home Affairs released on Saturday.

On the same day that security forces eliminated 16 Maoists during an operation in the Sukma district of Chhattisgarh, officials noted a consistent decline in Left Wing Extremism (LWE) related violence in the state, bringing it closer to its objective of being Maoist-free by March 31, 2026.

The statistics reveal that LWE violence incidents in Chhattisgarh were recorded at 305 in 2023, 246 in 2022, 188 in 2021, 241 in 2020, and 182 in 2019.

Officials attributed the uptick in violence in 2022 and 2023 to intensified counter-LWE operations, as security forces ventured into the core territories of the Communist Party of India (Maoist).

From a peak of 1,936 incidents in 2010, LWE violence has dramatically decreased to 374 in 2024, marking an 81 percent reduction.

The toll in terms of deaths (both civilians and security personnel) has also seen a significant drop of 85 percent during this timeframe, from 1,005 in 2010 to 150 in 2024.

The data further indicates that LWE-related violence incidents fell from 501 in 2019 to 374 in 2024, reflecting a 25 percent decrease. The overall death toll has similarly decreased by 26 percent, from 202 in 2019 to 150 in 2024.

Moreover, the number of districts impacted by LWE has sharply declined over the past six years, from 126 to 90 by April 2018, further down to 70 by July 2021, and then to 38 by April 2024, as per official records.

Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh's neighbor, has also experienced a downward trend in LWE violence over the last six years, with 69 incidents reported in 2024, compared to 129 in 2023, 96 in 2022, 100 in 2021, 154 in 2020, and 166 in 2019.

In Maharashtra, the recorded LWE violence incidents were 10 in 2024, down from 19 in 2023, 16 in 2022, 15 in 2021, 13 in 2020, and 48 in 2019.

In Odisha, there were 6 incidents in 2024, down from 12 in 2023, 16 in 2022, 11 in 2021, 21 in 2020, and 34 in 2019.

In Telangana, the incidents totaled 8 in 2024, compared to 3 in 2023, 9 in 2022, 4 in 2021, 5 in 2020, and 6 in 2019, according to MHA data.

In a post on X, Home Minister Shah stated, "Another strike on Naxalism! Our security agencies have neutralized 16 Naxalites and seized a substantial cache of automatic weapons in an operation in Sukma. Under the leadership of PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, we are determined to eradicate Naxalism by March 31, 2026. I urge those armed that weapons and violence are not the solution; only peace and development bring about change."
