Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Set for Cabinet Restructuring: New Faces Expected

Kolkata, Dec 4 (NationPress) A methodical reshuffle of the West Bengal cabinet is anticipated to commence at the start of the upcoming year, with completion projected within two to three months.
Sources from the Trinamool Congress indicate that the upcoming reshuffle will primarily focus on departments closely linked to public services. The Chief Minister aims to enhance the operational efficiency of these sectors, particularly with the Assembly elections looming in 2026.
This reshuffle may involve several key changes. Initially, certain vital departments, which are essential for public services, are currently overseen by ministers who also manage other portfolios.
A party insider remarked that the Chief Minister is contemplating assigning one dedicated minister to each of these critical departments to bolster their efficiency. “In this scenario, there is a strong likelihood that new individuals will be introduced into the cabinet,” the insider noted.
The second aspect of the reshuffle will involve reallocating specific departments among current ministers based on evolving needs. Consequently, some of the existing ministers may lose their current roles and be replaced by newcomers.
Additionally, sources have indicated that some ministers holding independent charge may be promoted to cabinet-level positions.
“Discussions regarding the reshuffle within the state cabinet began in August of this year. If the plans unfold as intended, the process is expected to commence at the beginning of the next year,” the party insider stated.
Recently, the Chief Minister provided clear directives on appointing individuals responsible for managing party affairs, legislative matters, and administration.
The CM emphasized that in these three domains, “old guards” will be prioritized over “new blood.” She also suggested a review of the performance of the current leadership within the youth and student wings of the Trinamool Congress.
