Union Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is set to launch the 'Grih Pravesh' ceremony for over five lakh completed houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G) in Satara district, Maharashtra, on Friday, 16 May 2025. The event marks a significant milestone in the Centre's rural housing push, coinciding with the completion of the 3 croreth house under the scheme nationally.

Key Developments at the Satara Event

The ceremony will be held at the Sainik School Ground, Satara, and will be attended by Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, and Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar, along with senior government officials and beneficiaries. Minister Chouhan will personally hand over house keys to six PMAY-G beneficiaries, including the household associated with the historic 3 crore completion mark.

On the occasion, Chouhan will also issue the PMAY-G Mother Sanction releasing central assistance worth ₹8,368.50 crore for Maharashtra for the financial year 2026-27. Separately, approval for 35 road projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY)-IV, covering nearly 96 km and benefiting 35 rural habitations, will also be announced. State-level awards under the 'Maha Awaas Abhiyan 2023-24' will be distributed during the programme.

PMAY-G National Progress

PMAY-G is the Centre's flagship scheme aimed at providing pucca houses with basic amenities to eligible rural households. Nationally, the government has allocated a cumulative target of 4.15 crore houses to states and Union Territories. Against this, 3.91 crore houses have been sanctioned and more than 3.03 crore houses have already been completed as of 11 May 2026. The Satara event effectively marks the crossing of the three-crore completion threshold — a benchmark the Centre has been tracking closely.

Maharashtra's Housing and Road Push

Within Maharashtra, 41.42 lakh houses have been sanctioned against a target of 43.80 lakh, with 17.92 lakh already completed. In Satara district alone, 24,848 houses have been completed out of 54,759 sanctioned — a completion rate of roughly 45% at the district level. On rural connectivity, the state has sanctioned over 34,000 km of rural roads and more than 1,000 bridges under PMGSY, with total investments exceeding ₹15,000 crore. The new PMGSY-IV approvals are designed to improve all-weather access to healthcare, education, markets, and public services in underserved habitations.

The convergence of housing handovers, fresh central fund releases, and road project approvals in a single event signals a coordinated pre-budget-cycle push to accelerate rural infrastructure delivery in the state.
