Thiruvalla (Kerala), March 26 (NationPress) A significant miscommunication has put the Malankara Mar Thoma Syrian Church, based in Thiruvalla, Kerala, in a challenging situation.
On Tuesday evening, the Church secretary, Rev. Abey T. Mammen, released a statement expressing condolences for the supposed passing of a senior priest, Rev. James George.
Rev. George, who serves as the Vicar of Kumbanad Shalom Mar Thoma Church near Thiruvalla, had been hospitalized following an illness that began on Monday.
That same evening, Rev. Mammen shared a message announcing the death of George.
This announcement quickly circulated within the Church's social media groups and among its members, a standard practice for such news.
However, as midnight approached, a follow-up message from Mammen apologized for the earlier erroneous announcement.
In the statement, Mammen clarified, "We recognize the profound concern and emotional reactions from our loyal community regarding the state of our cherished clergy, Rev. James George. Initially, based on the communicated information and the serious nature of his condition after ventilator support was withdrawn, we announced the passing of Rev. James George."
"We have since received updates from the medical team indicating that although James Achen is in critical condition and under close observation, he has not been officially declared deceased," the statement continued.
"We acknowledge the serious nature and sensitivity of this matter and sincerely regret any confusion or distress it may have caused. We ask for the continued prayers of our faithful community during this trying time and will keep everyone informed as we receive more medical updates. He remains in a critical state and is receiving oxygen support. Let us stay united in prayer and hope, trusting in God's presence and peace throughout this challenging journey," wrote Mammen.
Despite this, some members of the laity are protesting and are calling for action against Mammen for this irresponsible announcement.
