Clash Erupts in Kulgam, J&K

Srinagar, Dec 19 (NationPress) A clash has erupted between security personnel and militants in the Kadder region of South Kashmir's Kulgam district, the police reported on Thursday.

"Clash has erupted in the Kadder area of Kulgam district. Police and security personnel are engaged in the operation," police stated.

The operation was initiated after a collaborative effort between police and security personnel received intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the vicinity.

In recent times, there has been a series of encounters between militants and security forces throughout Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the elimination of numerous militants and their leaders. However, security forces have also suffered losses.

Notably, terrorist activities are now extending to regions within Jammu and Kashmir that were previously less affected, such as Srinagar in Kashmir and areas in the Chenab Valley, Udhampur, and Kathua in Jammu.

While most operations in Kashmir are launched by security forces with the assistance of intelligence, in Jammu, the highly trained militants have been ambushing vehicles and employing grenades, armor-piercing ammunition, and M4 assault rifles.

Sources indicate that the rise in militancy and the utilization of advanced weaponry by militants signify a considerable escalation in the threat level. The increase in attacks has led to political backlash, demands for more robust security measures, and heightened public anxiety.

Analysts suggest that over recent years, the Pir Panjal region, which separates the Kashmir Valley from Jammu, has experienced a rise in militancy.

The ongoing anti-terror operations in Kashmir have driven militants into mountainous areas and regions previously free from such violence, where they find refuge.

Experts argue that a comprehensive strategy is necessary to tackle the growing militancy in Jammu and Kashmir, which includes improved intelligence gathering and better coordination among security forces.

The increasing trend of terrorism underscores the urgency of reevaluating and reinforcing the security framework to ensure the safety and stability of the region.
