Chennai, Nov 10 (NationPress) Chief Minister M.K. Stalin is set to launch 25 Anbu Cholai -- Senior Citizens’ Recreation and Resource Centres -- throughout Tiruchirappalli district on Monday.
This initiative, with a budget of Rs 10 crore, reflects the Tamil Nadu government’s commitment to improving the quality of life and enhancing social engagement for elderly citizens.
Designed to promote physical, mental, and emotional well-being, the Anbu Cholai centres serve as day-care facilities, offering opportunities for companionship, recreation, and community involvement.
Each centre features ample space, essential amenities, and accessibility enhancements tailored for elderly users. Activities such as reading, yoga, cultural interactions, indoor games, and counselling will be offered by trained staff.
Officials have indicated that this project is a direct result of Chief Minister Stalin’s vision to foster inclusive and supportive environments for the elderly, particularly for those living alone or away from family.
The centres will operate during the day, providing nutritious snacks, health monitoring, and wellness programmes in partnership with the Social Welfare and Health Departments.
Before the inauguration, the Chief Minister will attend a private function at the home of Srirangam MLA Palaniyandi. Afterward, he will proceed to Pudukkottai district to lay the foundation for various development projects totaling Rs 767 crore. This event will be held at the Mookambigai College of Engineering in Keeranur, where CM Stalin will also unveil completed projects, distribute welfare assistance, and deliver a special address.
The Anbu Cholai initiative is a significant stride in the government’s broader agenda of ensuring the welfare and dignity of senior citizens through community-based support. After his engagements in Tiruchi and Pudukkottai, the Chief Minister is expected to return to Chennai in the evening.
Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin will also inaugurate a unique welfare initiative -- the “Special Temple Service Scheme” -- aimed at senior couples aged 70 and above at the historic Arulmigu Sri Parthasarathyswamy Temple in Triplicane on Monday.
