Cold Wave Forces Closure of Schools in Araria, Bihar for Classes Up to 8 Until January 12

Patna, Jan 9 (NationPress) In response to the intense cold wave conditions, the local authorities have decided to suspend all classes for students up to the 8th grade in schools across Bihar's Araria district until January 12.

District Magistrate Anil Kumar issued an order to halt classes up to the 8th grade in every school and coaching center in Araria district until the specified date.

This action was taken under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code, 2023, emphasizing the health and safety of young learners.

All educational activities for students up to Class 8, including in government and private institutions, pre-schools, Anganwadi centers, and coaching centers, are prohibited until January 12, as stated by the authorities.

Classes for students in grades 9 through 12 will continue as scheduled from 10:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.

Exemptions are made for special classes and examinations for pre-board and board students, which will proceed as planned. Teachers are required to be present in schools during this time.

The District Education Officer, along with other officials such as the District Programme Officer and Block Development Officers, have been instructed to ensure strict adherence to this directive.

In addition, the district administration of Sheohar has also enacted a similar suspension of classes until January 12 due to the ongoing cold weather.

The harsh cold wave conditions in Bihar are expected to last, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating no immediate relief in sight.

A robust Western Disturbance is anticipated to affect Northwest India starting Friday, which will likely bring additional snowfall to mountainous areas, further intensifying the cold conditions in Bihar.

Areas like Araria, Sheohar, and other regions in North Bihar are forecasted to experience heightened cold and lower temperatures, particularly during the mornings and evenings.

Severe cold conditions are predicted to persist across Bihar until Makar Sankranti on January 14. Dense fog is expected to linger during the early mornings and late nights, diminishing visibility and contributing to the chill.

The IMD has forecasted a decline of 2-3 degrees Celsius in both minimum and maximum temperatures over the next couple of days. These prevailing conditions underscore the necessity of the measures implemented by local administrations, including the suspension of classes for students up to Class 8 in Araria and Sheohar districts, aimed at protecting students from health risks due to extreme weather. Residents are urged to take precautions to stay warm, especially during peak cold hours in the mornings and evenings.
