Patna, January 23 (NationPress) The district administration of Patna has announced on Thursday the closure of all educational institutions up to Class 8 for an additional two days due to the severe cold weather conditions.

All private and government schools, pre-schools, and Anganwadi centers within the Patna district will not be open for students through January 24 and January 25.

Classes for students in grades above Class 8 will continue as scheduled from 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM during this period. Activities related to board examinations will remain unchanged.

Previously, schools were set to be closed until January 23, 2025 due to the cold weather. This decision aims to safeguard the health and well-being of students given the extreme cold conditions in the area.

“An official order has been issued in light of the prevailing cold weather and low temperatures that might pose health risks to children. The district is experiencing harsh cold and low temperatures, which could negatively impact the health of the young ones,” stated Chandrashekhar Singh, the district magistrate of Patna.

This order is issued under Section 163 of the Indian Civil Security Code 2023 and extends Office Order No. 876, dated January 21, 2025.

The ongoing winter in Bihar has intensified, with the combination of western winds, dense fog, and the potential for rain significantly disrupting daily life.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning that cold wave conditions will continue across the state for the next three days, presenting further challenges for the residents.

The minimum temperature is anticipated to decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in the next 48 hours, with most districts experiencing temperatures between 10 to 14°C.

Additionally, maximum temperatures are expected to stay below normal, exacerbating the cold. Moderate to dense fog is currently affecting visibility and daily commuting in districts such as Patna, Vaishali, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga, Katihar, Kishanganj, Sitamarhi, Araria, Supaul, Madhubani, Saharsa, Purnea, and Bhagalpur.

The fog conditions are expected to persist for at least the coming three days, according to the Patna Meteorological Centre.
