Why Are Schools in 20 Districts of Rajasthan Closed Due to Dense Fog?
Synopsis
Key Takeaways
Jaipur, Jan 5 (NationPress) The stark reality of a severe cold wave coupled with dense fog has compelled district authorities throughout Rajasthan to halt school operations in 20 districts to prioritize the safety of children.
Official directives have been issued to close schools for younger students over varying periods from January 6 to January 12, based on local weather assessments.
As per district-specific instructions, schools in Jaipur, Hanumangarh, Sikar, Jhalawar, Sri Ganganagar, Ajmer, Pratapgarh, Dungarpur, Bhilwara, Tonk, Bharatpur, Nagaur, Deeg-Kumher, and Rajsamand will remain closed for students from Class 1 to Class 8 for varying durations.
In Sri Ganganagar, schools for nursery to Class 5 will be closed until January 12, while Kota has declared a one-day closure on January 6 for Classes 1 to 8.
In Jaipur, students in Classes 1 to 5 will enjoy holidays from January 6 to 10, and Classes 6 to 8 will remain closed until January 8. Similar measures have been put in place in Bundi, Baran, Dausa, Chittorgarh, and Ajmer, with schools scheduled to reopen between January 7 and January 8 depending on local conditions.
This decision arises amidst dropping temperatures, reduced visibility due to fog, and a cold wave that is impacting daily life across the state.
The Meteorological Department has cautioned that cold conditions may linger for the coming days. Administrations have clarified that teachers and staff may still be required to attend school unless otherwise stated.
Parents are encouraged to remain informed about local administrative announcements, as further extensions could be issued if the cold worsens.
On Sunday, cold-day conditions were reported in Kota, Sikar, Jaipur, Tonk, Bhilwara, Ajmer, Baran, and Pali. Almost all districts, with the exception of Barmer and Jaisalmer, recorded temperatures dropping below 10 degrees, leaving the desert state in a chill.
