Congress Activist Passes Away During Protest Near Uttar Pradesh Assembly, State Leader Calls for Compensation

Lucknow, Dec 18 (NationPress) A Congress activist tragically passed away on Wednesday during the party's demonstration near the Uttar Pradesh Assembly in Lucknow.
The deceased, identified as Prabhat Pandey, had traveled to Lucknow to participate in the protest and his body was subsequently taken to the Civil Hospital.
Uttar Pradesh Congress President Ajay Rai arrived at the hospital shortly thereafter.
Ajay Rai remarked, “We are individuals who uphold Gandhiji's philosophy. Our intention was to peacefully protest at the Vidhan Sabha. However, the state’s Chief Minister attempted to silence the voices of Congress members by placing them under house arrest a day prior. Additionally, there was pressure on them not to travel to Lucknow.”
He also requested financial aid of Rs 1 crore for the family of the deceased, Prabhat Pandey, from the Uttar Pradesh government.
“We urge the state government to ensure that the Chief Minister provides Rs 1 crore in financial assistance to the family of the late Prabhat Pandey, along with a government job for one of the family members,” he added.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Commissionerate DCP Raveena Tyagi stated that Prabhat Pandey, a resident of Gorakhpur, was brought to the civil hospital from the Congress office in an unconscious condition, where he was pronounced dead by the medical staff.
According to the doctors, no visible injuries were found on his body. A videographed postmortem of the body is scheduled, and the police will proceed with further legal actions.
Earlier that day, Congress leaders preparing to march to Lucknow for the demonstration were hindered in various districts of the state, with senior leaders subjected to house arrest.
Congress members arriving at the party office in Lucknow were taken into police custody and later released at Eco Garden. The police also detained leaders attempting to reach the Assembly.
State Congress President Ajay Rai was arrested while en route to the protest near the Assembly but later arrived at the Civil Hospital after the incident.
