Amritsar, July 18 (NationPress) The Leader of Opposition in Punjab and Congress representative Partap Singh Bajwa has urged Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to urgently organize an all-party meeting in Amritsar to address the ongoing threats to the Golden Temple stemming from menacing emails.
After paying his respects at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Bajwa, who was joined by Congress MP Gurjeet Singh Aujla, Sukhwinder Singh Danny Bandala, and other party leaders, mentioned that he had discussions with officials from the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC).
According to the SGPC officials, despite one arrest, new threatening emails targeting Sri Harmandir Sahib have continued to emerge.
“This is no longer a singular event; it indicates a profound and malicious conspiracy against the peace of Punjab, communal harmony, and its religious institutions. This issue warrants utmost seriousness and cannot be dismissed through standard police measures,” expressed Bajwa.
He voiced his concerns regarding the AAP government’s failure to inform the Assembly during the recent special session on the sacrilege Bill and their choice to conceal ongoing threats, even during the Assembly's discussions.
“This transcends mere law and order; it concerns the safety of Punjab’s most revered religious site and the potential risk to social harmony throughout the state. Why didn’t CM Bhagwant Mann disclose this in the Assembly? Why was the Assembly kept uninformed?” Bajwa interrogated.
He urged CM Mann to convene an all-party meeting in Amritsar to devise a united, bipartisan strategy to thwart these harmful intentions, safeguard peace, and honor the sentiments of Punjabis from all communities. Bajwa cautioned against any efforts to politicize this critical matter, reminding that Sri Harmandir Sahib is sacred to all Punjabis and millions globally.
In a related development, Amritsar Police have apprehended software engineer Shubham Dubey, a resident of Faridabad, in connection with a series of threatening emails suggesting an explosion at the Golden Temple. Police Commissioner Gurpreet Singh Bhullar informed the media that Dubey has been taken into custody for interrogation.
His laptop and mobile devices have been confiscated for forensic analysis, and he stated that central agencies are also participating in the investigation.
