Jabalpur, May 31 (NationPress) The Congress party criticized the BJP on Saturday for what they described as exploiting Operation Sindoor for political gain, stating that individuals who engage in politics over the shrouds of martyrs can never truly be patriots.
Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Digvijaya Singh remarked, “Those who politicize the sacrifices of martyrs lack any real contribution to India's independence. Today, they are trying to claim credit for Operation Sindoor and indirectly imply that the Indian Armed Forces answer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” while addressing the ‘Jai Hind Sabha’ event organized by Congress in Jabalpur.
In a symbolic demonstration of his stance, the former Chief Minister chose not to share the stage with senior party members during the event.
Instead, he sat among the audience, leaving his designated chair on stage empty. He only took to the stage to address the crowd and returned to his seat afterward.
During his speech, Singh accused the ruling BJP of politicizing national interests to gain from the success of Operation Sindoor, which targeted terror camps in Pakistan.
Despite requests from former Madhya Pradesh minister Lakhan Ghanghoria to join other senior leaders on stage, Digvijaya Singh remained resolute in his decision.
Congress MLA Ghanghoria was seen showing respect by touching Singh's feet to persuade him to join the senior leaders, but Singh stuck to his principle of sitting with the people.
This decision by Singh to avoid the podium was a commitment to his vow made after an incident during the Congress ‘Samvidhan Bachao’ rally in Gwalior, where disputes among party members arose over seating arrangements.
The Jabalpur event was part of Congress's nationwide 'Jai Hind Sabhas' honoring the bravery of the armed forces during Operation Sindoor in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam.
This opposition initiative is viewed as a counter to the BJP's recent Tiranga Yatras, aimed at celebrating the armed forces' valor and the success of Operation Sindoor.
