Adoor (Kerala), March 30 (NationPress) The Congress party asserted on Monday that the political climate in Kerala strongly favors the United Democratic Front (UDF), expressing optimism about a significant win in the upcoming Assembly elections.

In a conversation with IANS, Congress MP K. Suresh stated: "The political environment for the Kerala elections is decidedly in favor of the UDF. We are confident that the UDF will secure victory. Out of the 140 seats, we anticipate winning approximately 100."

Suresh also highlighted senior party leader Rahul Gandhi's visit to the state.

"Today, Rahul Gandhi campaigned for the UDF candidate in the Adoor Assembly constituency and is set to campaign in four additional constituencies later today," he noted.

Earlier, Gandhi kicked off his Assembly election campaign in Kerala with an assertive approach, alleging a "covert agreement" between the ruling Left and the BJP, while presenting a range of welfare promises to voters ahead of the polls scheduled for April 9.

Addressing a sizable crowd in Adoor amid the sweltering heat, he expressed gratitude for their overwhelming support and framed the electoral contest as a direct competition between the UDF and a tacit alliance of Left and BJP.

"On one side stands the UDF, and on the other, a coalition of the Left and the BJP," he stated, suggesting that the BJP does not perceive the Left as a genuine opponent on the national stage.

He accused leaders who authentically resist the BJP of facing undue pressure and scrutiny, citing ongoing investigations against him while asserting that Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and the Left leadership do not experience similar levels of investigation.

The Opposition Leader in the Lok Sabha further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi for remaining silent on pressing issues in Kerala, including Sabarimala, to prevent politically damaging repercussions for the CPI(M).

In a pointed critique, he claimed that the Left administration in Kerala has strayed from its foundational principles and adopted "corporate-friendly" policies akin to the BJP.

He drew attention to the struggles of rubber farmers, arguing that the sector has been sidelined, and condemned both the central and state governments for their failure to safeguard laborers and small producers.

Positioning the UDF as a pro-people alternative, Rahul Gandhi introduced a series of significant guarantees.

On Sunday, Prime Minister Modi declared that the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) represents the only “A-team” in the forthcoming assembly elections in Kerala, launching a blistering critique against the ruling Left Democratic Front (LDF) and the Opposition UDF.
