Bengaluru, May 29 (NationPress) A group of Karnataka Congress Members of the Legislative Council (MLCs) presented a formal complaint to the Governor on Thursday, urging legal and constitutional measures against BJP MLC N. Ravikumar for reportedly referring to Kalaburagi Deputy Commissioner Fouzia Taranum as "a Pakistani".
The group also called for action against the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, for likening RDPR, IT and BT Minister Priyank Kharge to a “dog.”
The delegation, spearheaded by the Leader of the House in the Legislative Council, Minister for Minor Irrigation, Science and Technology, N.S. Boseraju, along with Chief Whip Saleem Ahmad, met with the Governor to submit their complaint.
Speaking to the media, Minister Boseraju stated, “BJP MLCs N. Ravikumar and Chalavadi Narayanaswamy have made unconstitutional statements in public. In a democracy, such remarks are unacceptable. While BJP leaders profess to advocate for ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas,’ their actions are actually divisive.”
He added that these leaders have consistently made statements against the Constitution. Narayanaswamy’s derogatory remarks targeting the Dalit community justify his expulsion from the Council. We have urged the Governor to take legal and constitutional action against Ravikumar for his offensive comments about a public officer, he demanded.
Chief Whip Saleem Ahmad mentioned that the Congress delegation filed two complaints with the Governor—one against N. Ravikumar and another against Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, the Opposition Leader in the Council.
“Narayanaswamy has made irresponsible and unconstitutional remarks against Minister Priyank Kharge, while Ravikumar has questioned the origins of an IAS officer (Fouzia Taranum). Such conduct is highly condemnable. We have requested the Governor to suspend both of them. Their comments send a dangerous message to society,” he stated, adding that the Governor promised to investigate the matter.
