New Delhi, Aug 20 (NationPress) The Congress party commemorated the legacy of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on Wednesday, a day that also signifies his birth anniversary, known as 'Sadbhavana Divas'.
Congress National President Mallikarjun Kharge, Wayanad MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, and party General Secretary K.C. Venugopal gathered at Veer Bhumi in New Delhi, joined by numerous party leaders and supporters, to pay their heartfelt tributes to the former Prime Minister.
On this poignant occasion, Robert Vadra, Priyanka Gandhi's spouse, along with their son Raihan Vadra, also honored Rajiv Gandhi by laying floral tributes.
Rajiv Gandhi, who held the office of India's Prime Minister from 1984 to 1989, ascended to power following the tragic assassination of his mother, then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. At just 40 years old, he made history as the youngest Prime Minister in India.
He led the nation until the 1989 general elections before serving as the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, resigning in December 1990, merely six months prior to his assassination in a horrific terrorist attack.
Earlier in the day, the Congress party took to social media platform X to express, "On the birth anniversary of the architect of modern India, 'Bharat Ratna' former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi ji, we extend countless salutations. On this Sadbhavana Divas, we remember Rajiv Gandhi ji's aspirations and reaffirm his vision."
Kharge also shared his tribute on social media, describing Rajiv Gandhi as a remarkable leader who steered the nation toward the 21st century.
"As we celebrate Sadbhavana Diwas, we reflect on Rajiv Gandhi, a leader who ignited hope in millions and advanced India into the modern era. His countless contributions defined his legacy and brought transformative changes to the country. We extend our deepest respects on his birth anniversary," the Congress chief posted on X.
