Kalpetta, Feb 25 (NationPress) In a vital initiative aimed at supporting families affected by landslides in Wayanad, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, is set to lay the foundation stone on Thursday for new homes being built by the party for those impacted by the Chooralmala Mundakkai disaster that occurred on July 30, 2024.
Accompanying him at the ceremony, which is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in Kalpetta, will be Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.
Rahul Gandhi is expected to land at Kannur airport on Wednesday and will first engage with farmers at a meet in Peravoor before heading to Kalpetta for the foundation-laying event.
This housing project is part of the party's ongoing commitment to rehabilitate families devastated by the severe landslides in this hilly region.
Earlier in the day, Priyanka Gandhi will initiate her activities by attending a DISHA meeting at the Collectorate.
At 1:30 p.m., she will deliver advanced equipment, funded through CSR contributions from JSW, to the Forest Department's Rapid Response Team (RRT) at the Kalpetta MP’s office.
She had previously facilitated the acquisition of a cutting-edge vehicle for the RRT, enhancing its operational capabilities amid increasing concerns over man-animal conflicts.
Her visit encompasses more than just the housing initiative.
On February 27, she plans to inaugurate the laboratory of the Kalikavu Service Co-operative Bank and later oversee the silver jubilee celebrations of MES School at Kaithapoyil in Thiruvambady, where she will also lay the foundation stone for a new educational block.
Furthermore, she is scheduled to visit the Chippilithode area related to the proposed Churam bypass project.
On February 28, Priyanka Gandhi will assess the site for the proposed Bairakuppa bridge project, celebrate the golden jubilee of the Knanaya Catholic Church, and visit the home of a local resident killed in a recent tiger attack.
Additionally, she will participate in the key-handover ceremony of residences built by the Indian Union Muslim League for disaster survivors.
This prominent visit highlights Congress' efforts to merge relief initiatives with sustained grassroots engagement in Wayanad, coinciding with the upcoming Assembly elections.
