New Delhi, April 4 (NationPress) The Congress party has officially initiated a fellowship program named after former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, aiming to ‘attract some of the nation’s most talented individuals into the political arena.’

The Leader of Opposition (LoP), Rahul Gandhi, announced this new initiative via social media, emphasizing that each year, 50 mid-career professionals will be selected and mentored by the senior leadership of the Congress party, with the goal of making a significant and impactful contribution to the nation's future.

Gandhi also encouraged mid-career professionals to apply for the program, stating, “This is an opportunity to engage in public life and contribute to building a progressive and inclusive India.”

The Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellows Programme, as detailed on the official portal, clarifies that the fellowship is not a typical entry-level internship but rather a unique opportunity to collaborate closely with the top leadership of the Indian National Congress.

“If you possess at least 10 years of professional experience and are eager to create a meaningful impact, this is your chance to step into leadership,” it states.

Individuals interested in joining the Dr. Manmohan Singh Fellowship Programme should have a passion for public service and a strong commitment to driving positive societal change.

Since the fellowship program demands full-time dedication to public service, candidates must be prepared to work long hours and possess a solutions-oriented approach.

Earlier in the day, Congress media and publicity head Pawan Khera, Chairman of Professionals’ Congress Praveen Chakravarty, and SC department coordinator K Raju briefed the media about the fellowship program, explaining how it will ‘nurture and prepare’ the leaders of tomorrow.

“The selected fellows will undergo rigorous training and face challenging assignments within the party, guided by experienced Congress leaders,” explained Chakravarty.

“This is a serious program intended for serious individuals with genuine intentions for public service,” he added.

He also pointed out that the world is currently experiencing turbulent times, and India must take the right steps to safeguard its interests.

“President Trump has imposed stringent tariffs on all nations, including India. If we fail to respond adequately, it could result in significant job losses and high unemployment rates in the country,” he stated.

He emphasized that the Fellowship program aims to tackle such challenges and will draw insights from Dr. Singh’s governing principles to navigate through such crises, recalling how the former PM proposed forming a professionals group to deliberate on geopolitical issues and devise lasting solutions.
