Congress Leaders Pay Homage to Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh

New Delhi, Dec 27 (NationPress) Senior Congress leaders Shashi Tharoor and Sachin Pilot expressed deep sorrow on Friday over the passing of former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, referring to him as a transformative leader and a compassionate statesman.

Shashi Tharoor, reflecting on his long-standing relationship with Dr. Singh, stated, “I have known him for several years, initially as Chairman of the South Commission during my tenure at the United Nations in Geneva. Later, as Prime Minister, we fostered a close bond. He played a crucial role, alongside Sonia Gandhi Ji, in my entry into politics.”

Tharoor commended Dr. Singh's leadership during difficult global challenges, highlighting his efforts in stabilizing India's economy and guiding the nation towards significant advancements. “His humanity and compassion were truly remarkable. A great man has departed from us,” he added.

Sachin Pilot termed Dr. Singh’s passing as “the end of an era.” He underscored the former Prime Minister’s unmatched contributions, from his tenure as the Governor of the Reserve Bank of India to his pivotal role in formulating India’s economic policies as Finance Minister and leading the country as Prime Minister.

“He will be remembered for his honesty, humility, and his capacity to forge consensus,” Pilot noted.

In a post on social media platform X, Pilot expressed, “I extend my deepest respects to Dr. Manmohan Singh ji. A leader who devoted his life to the nation, he will always be remembered for his wisdom and invaluable contributions to India’s growth.

He was the epitome of a gentleman, kind, courteous, and humble. My heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones. May his soul find peace.”

Dr. Manmohan Singh, a distinguished economist and the architect behind India’s economic reforms, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.

His legacy as a visionary economist, a true statesman, and a unifying leader will be forever inscribed in India’s history.
