Congress Leader Advises Against Viewing 'Emergency'; Makes Sexist Comment Towards Kangana

New Delhi, Jan 8 (NationPress) The film 'Emergency', starring Kangana Ranaut and illustrating the challenging period of democracy under late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi's administration from 1975-77, has indeed stirred controversy within the Congress party, as expected.
As the film approaches its release on January 17, Congress leaders have labeled it a 'propaganda film' and suspect ulterior motives behind its production.
Husain Dalwai, a Congress leader from Maharashtra, escalated his critique of the filmmakers by launching a sexist attack on actor and BJP MP Kangana Ranaut, who not only stars in but also directs the film. He urged movie-goers and cinema enthusiasts to avoid watching it, asserting that it is riddled with lies and hearsay.
“She has a loose temperament. She lacks knowledge about the country’s history and its national icons,” remarked the Congress leader, a two-time Rajya Sabha MP.
In an additional sexist remark, he stated, “She has been made a Lok Sabha MP by the Bharatiya Janata Party to bark. She possesses no stature of her own and remains a pawn of the RSS.”
“Everything she articulates is merely regurgitated from what the RSS feeds her,” he added.
Congress leader Husain Dalwai not only condemned the film and its creators but also called for an investigation into their funding sources, questioning who is behind the effort to undermine the legacy of India’s ‘Iron Lady’.
“We will not permit its screening if anything objectionable is portrayed,” he threatened.
In a conversation with IANS, he commented that Kangana’s invitation to Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi to view her upcoming film 'Emergency' was merely a publicity stunt and claimed that the filmmakers were frantically attempting to market the film, which has not generated much interest.
Earlier today, Kangana informed IANS that she had invited the Congress MP to attend a screening of her film.
Kangana stated, "I actually met Priyanka Gandhi ji in Parliament, and the first thing I said to her was, ‘You should watch Emergency.’ She was very gracious and replied, ‘Yeah, maybe.’"
As theaters and the public prepare for the film’s debut on January 17, it is the disparaging and shameful comments made by the former Congress MP that have stirred controversy.
It is anticipated that the situation will become increasingly contentious, as Kangana has openly discussed the challenges and obstacles she has faced leading up to the film's release due to a ‘particular ecosystem’.
Significantly, Kangana’s film 'Emergency' covers the 21-month period (from 1975 – 1977) of India’s governance under then PM Indira Gandhi, during which the Emergency was declared and fundamental rights of citizens were suspended.
