Gandhinagar, March 15 (NationPress) Dinsha Patel, a former Union Minister and seasoned Congress leader from Gujarat, has publicly challenged Rahul Gandhi's assertions about certain party members from the state acting as ‘agents’ for the BJP.
In an exclusive conversation with IANS, Patel not only disputed Rahul's direct allegations against the Gujarat Congress but also aimed to clarify misconceptions.
"I do not concur with him because representatives from both parties collaborate and engage with one another for numerous social welfare initiatives. For projects such as launching a dairy outlet or establishing a bank, they join forces," he expressed.
Rahul's comments stirred up political discussions as he urged the Gujarat Congress, during his two-day trip to the state, to eliminate BJP’s ‘sympathisers’ from the party for its rejuvenation.
While addressing party workers, Rahul urged them to value genuine supporters and dismiss those whose actions and character raised suspicions.
"There exists a split in the leadership of Gujarat from district to block president levels. There are two categories of leaders. One group stands with the populace and genuinely holds the Congress ideology, while the other group fails to connect with the people and collaborates with the BJP," he stated.
This was perceived as a call to action from the Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, to fortify the party’s electoral framework ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections in Gujarat, yet it left many local leaders feeling discontented.
The former Union Minister also praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his role in constructing the Statue of Unity and highlighted some of the commendable traits that make him relatable to the public.
“We respect, appreciate, and honor him for erecting the Statue of Unity. He is my friend. He maintains a cordial relationship with me, communicates well, and treats me with respect. In this regard, everything is satisfactory,” he remarked.
He further stated that the emphasis placed on the Statue of Unity by the BJP was commendable and appropriate.
“Congress has clearly overlooked this aspect,” he concluded.
