Imphal, Dec 15 (NationPress) - The opposition Congress in Manipur has labeled the recent gathering of BJP MLAs with central party leaders in New Delhi as akin to attending a 'crash course', aiming criticism at the state leadership amidst a tense political climate.
The Manipur BJP Legislature Party convened at the party's headquarters in Delhi on Sunday to deliberate on the ongoing peace process and pivotal issues concerning the violence-stricken state.
Expressing his views via a post on his X account, Manipur Congress President Keisham Meghachandra Singh stated: 'Instead of restoring law and order in Manipur, the BJP has reduced its MLAs to students, attending crash courses in Delhi on how to justify administrative failures back home.'
A significant participation was noted at the meeting, with over 30 BJP MLAs including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata Singh, and former ministers.
Manipur BJP President Adhikarimayum Sharda Devi was also present at this crucial assembly, which was called by the party's central leaders.
Key figures in attendance included two senior Union BJP leaders - National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh and the party's Northeast coordinator Sambit Patra.
On their official X account, the BJP announced: 'The Manipur BJP Legislature Party meeting was held today at the BJP headquarters in Delhi, in the presence of BJP National General Secretary (Organisation) B.L. Santhosh ji and party's Northeast Coordinator Sambit Patra ji.'
The topics discussed were focused on the peace and progress of Manipur, according to the BJP's post on X.
Delegates from Manipur, including former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh and Assembly Speaker Satyabrata Singh, traveled to Delhi on Saturday to participate in the significant meeting convened by the party's central leadership.
Prior to their departure to Delhi, former Chief Minister Biren Singh indicated that the BJP's central leadership had directed every BJP MLA from the state to be present at the meeting.
With 37 MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly, the state remains under President's Rule since February 13, just four days after N. Biren Singh resigned from his position.
Currently, the 60-member state Assembly has been suspended following the imposition of President's Rule, with its tenure extending to 2027.
Last month, central leaders B.L. Santhosh and Sambit Patra visited Manipur for three days, conducting meetings with state party leaders and MLAs, igniting speculation regarding the formation of a new government in the northeastern state.
In October, 26 BJP MLAs, including N. Biren Singh, had met with B.L. Santhosh and Sambit Patra in Delhi, urging them to 'install a popular government' in Manipur and expressing their readiness to govern as a united front.
Former Chief Minister Biren Singh reiterated that all BJP legislators in Manipur remain united in their quest to establish a popular government in the state, confirming that the process of government formation is already underway while avoiding comments on individual legislators' opinions.
