Patna, May 21 (NationPress) In a noteworthy electoral commitment to attract women voters for the upcoming 2025 Bihar Assembly Elections, the Congress party on Wednesday reintroduced the ‘Mai Behin Maan Yojana’, a program initially proposed by Bihar Leader of the Opposition Tejashwi Yadav a few months prior.
During a press briefing in Patna, Bihar, Congress President Rajesh Ram announced that should the INDIA Bloc regain power, this initiative would deliver Rs 2,500 in monthly financial support to women throughout the state.
This announcement reinforces the previous commitment made by Tejashwi Yadav, reflecting a unified strategy among the INDIA Bloc.
Rajesh Ram emphasized that this is not merely a standalone promise from the Congress but a collective decision involving all six parties of the INDIA Bloc in Bihar.
He highlighted the success of similar programs in Congress-led states like Karnataka, Jharkhand, and Himachal Pradesh, positioning it as a paradigm of empowerment and dignity for women.
“Our goal with this scheme is to foster self-reliance and financial security for women. There is complete agreement on this among the INDIA Bloc partners,” stated Ram.
As the electoral landscape heats up, Congress has also initiated a poster and missed-call campaign to promote the scheme.
Mahila Congress National President Alka Lamba remarked that this represents the “first guarantee” of the INDIA Bloc government and underscores a commitment to women's rights and dignity.
The ‘Mai Behin Maan’ initiative was initially proposed by Tejashwi Yadav earlier this year as a central element of his party’s vision for transformative change in Bihar. Analysts interpret this as a strategic move to consolidate the women’s vote, particularly among rural and low-income demographics.
