Patna, May 21 (NationPress) Alka Lamba, the President of the Congress National Women’s Wing, declared on Wednesday that should the Mahagathbandhan coalition gain power in Bihar, it will initiate the 'Mai Bahan Maan Yojana'. This scheme will ensure that women receive Rs 2,500 monthly directly into their bank accounts.
Lamba communicated with IANS: “Our governments in Telangana, Karnataka, Himachal Pradesh, Jharkhand, and Tamil Nadu are already providing financial assistance to women. In Bihar, women, especially the impoverished and marginalized, are grappling with the challenges of inflation, unemployment, and migration. Their survival is at stake. We are committed that upon the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government in Bihar, our inaugural Cabinet meeting will prioritize the launch of the 'Mai Bahan Maan Yojana'. Each month, on the first, Rs 2,500 will be credited to the bank accounts of registered women to enhance their economic standing and assist them in combating poverty, inflation, and joblessness.”
Lamba also introduced a missed call registration system aimed at broadening the scheme's reach.
“Today, we have unveiled a missed call number. I urge all women in Bihar to register for the scheme by giving a missed call from their mobile devices. Once the government is established, all registered women will automatically receive Rs 2,500 per month. This is our promise,” she told IANS.
She emphasized that women who register will complete a formal “guarantee form,” which will serve as evidence of their eligibility for the scheme once the Mahagathbandhan assumes power.
When asked about the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) previously announcing a similar initiative, Lamba clarified that there are no distinctions between the two proposals.
“Our alliance is cohesive. The government will be collectively formed, and the decisions will be made jointly. Our announcement aligns with theirs. In fact, we commend their initiative and have completely endorsed it. This represents a united commitment,” she concluded.
Last year, former Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Prasad Yadav introduced the 'Mai Bahan Maan Yojana' shortly after the launch of CM Nitish Kumar's 'Mahila Samvad Yatra.'
